Group training has been one of the fastest-growing segments in commercial fitness over the past decade. Yet the equipment underpinning those studios has barely changed. Many gyms still run standard barbells and loose clips in an environment that demands speed, space, and precision. That creates friction for the instructor, waste for the facility, and a training experience that does not match the quality of the rest of the floor.
The Group is Gungnir's answer to that. A complete system of barbells, weight plates, and a compact storage rack, designed specifically for high-intensity, high-volume group training studios.

The problem with traditional group training equipment
- Clips that disappear or break mid-session and end up scattered across the floor.
- Plates that shift during reps.
- Barbells with limited load capacity that force experienced members to train below their level.
- Bars that bend when loaded beyond 30 kg.
- Time lost while participants fumble with equipment instead of training.
- Instructors are sometimes forced to have participants use two separate bars, one light and one heavy, simply because adjusting a single bar mid-class becomes unmanageable.
- These are well-known problems for every instructor and facility manager running modern group classes.
The result is an equipment setup that creates more obstacles than it removes. It reduces class quality and slowly erodes confidence in group training as a serious strength offering.
What The Group solves
The Group is built on three principles: solid, compact, and functional.
The barbell is a 5 kg group training bar in stainless steel, 141 cm long with a 100 cm grip zone, loadable up to 75 kg. That gives real free weight capacity for members who want to lift heavier, while keeping the base weight low enough for beginners and high-rep formats.
The plates are manufactured in polyurethane with stainless steel and recycled iron hubs, available in 0.5 kg, 1.25 kg, 2.5 kg, 5 kg, and 10 kg, enabling progression in small, precise increments. The plates carry a 5-year warranty and are built for daily commercial use.
The rack is compact: 134 cm tall, 84 cm wide, and 74 cm deep, with a 500 kg capacity and a 3-year warranty. It keeps the setup contained, tidy, and visible, so the instructor can run the class instead of hunting for equipment.

SlideLock: the patented core technology
At the heart of The Group is SlideLock, Gungnir's patented built-in locking mechanism. SlideLock is integrated directly into the bar and secures plates in place with a single motion. The mechanism is fast, intuitive, and completely free of loose parts that can disappear, break, or come loose mid-set.
For a group class, that means three concrete advantages.
- Participants spend less time changing weights between exercises.
- The instructor maintains tempo and structure throughout the session.
- The facility eliminates the ongoing cost of replacement clips along with the operational headache of clips ending up in the bin or forgotten in a back room.
Linn Kristin Eldsvik, Group Fitness Instructor at Sammen Bergen, described the experience after switching to The Group:
"First and foremost, it is user-friendly and easy to assemble, which makes it simple to adjust the weights quickly during the session so that all participants can adapt the load to their own level. This in turn contributes to better flow in the class and an even better experience for the participants. I love the locking mechanism on the bar. It means there are fewer loose parts to keep track of, while also providing extra safety during training. It creates an organized and inviting training environment. All in all, I experience this as well-thought-out, functional, and motivating equipment that truly elevates the quality of the group classes."
Sandra Angelil, Managing Director at Myrens Treningssenter, shared a similar view:
"The locking mechanism is incredibly simple, which allows us to run classes more efficiently. Participants can easily adjust the resistance to their own level, and with the smaller plates there is real room for gradual strength progression. Both instructors and participants are very pleased with the upgrade."

What The Group means for a commercial facility
The investment in The Group should be evaluated across three commercial dimensions.
First, member experience. A cleaner, more professional equipment setup raises the perceived quality of group training and strengthens retention among demanding members.
Second, operational efficiency. Fewer loose components means less maintenance time, lower operational costs over the long term, and less wear on instructors' working day.
Third, differentiation. A facility that offers The Group signals that it takes group training seriously as a strength product, not just a cardio format. That positioning is becoming increasingly important in a market where members expect gyms to deliver across every training surface.
The Group is delivered as a complete system and can be configured to match the size of your group training studio.
